Most brides only work with a hair and makeup artist once in their life, so it’s easy to forget key questions.
But the little details you ask before the big day can make all the difference to how your wedding morning runs.
Here are three things brides often wish they’d asked their HMUA and how to make sure you don’t forget.
1. “What should I (and my bridal party) wear for getting ready?”
Spoiler: not your hoodie from uni.
You’ll be in lots of photos and your hair and makeup artist will need easy access to your face, neckline and shoulders.
💡 Best bet: a robe, button-down shirt, or wrap dress you can remove without pulling it over your head.
Also: if your bridal party are having photos, it’s worth coordinating robes or outfits too.
2. “Would you like a drink or something to eat?”
They might be there for 4–5 hours. A glass of water, cup of tea, or sandwich goes a long way and ensures they’re still sharp when it’s your turn.
You don’t have to host them like a guest, but a little kindness makes the morning feel more human.
3. “How much time do you need?”
Artists are often booked for multiple people, but time always goes faster than you think.
Ask your artist to send a full morning schedule based on your party size so you know:
Who’s going first
How long each service will roughly take
When you need to be in the chair
Build in buffer time and final touch-ups so the morning doesn’t feel rushed.
These are small questions but they shape your whole morning.
