Should You Book Hair and Makeup Separately or Together?

It’s one of the most common questions brides ask:
“Should I book hair and makeup separately or find someone who does both?”
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. But asking the right questions can help you make the best decision for you and your wedding day.
Here’s what to consider before you book.
1. How big is your bridal party?
If you have a large group, you’ll likely need multiple artists, regardless of whether they’re from one business or separate ones.
💡 For 4+ people, we always recommend asking about additional artists. Most pros have a trusted network.
2. Do you already know someone you love?
Some brides have followed a makeup artist on Instagram for years and wouldn’t dream of working with anyone else.
If you’re emotionally drawn to someone’s style or energy, it’s worth booking them and then asking if they have a trusted recommendation for the other service.
3. Are you trying to keep things simple?
Booking a single artist who can do both hair and makeup can simplify things... fewer contracts, fewer emails, and often a more coordinated look.
But make sure their work reflects the style you want. If you love soft romantic hairstyles but the artist's feed is all sleek buns, it might not be the right match.
4. Ask the experts
Artists work with other suppliers all the time. If you’ve found a hair or makeup artist whose work you love, ask them:
“Do you recommend someone you’ve worked well with?”
“Have you got recommendations for bigger bridal parties?”
“What’s worked best for past weddings like mine?”
Their advice can save you time and help avoid last-minute hiccups.
There’s no wrong answer, just the right fit for your day.
